The ChokeSaver typically clears the airway in one pull, taking 3-5 seconds total. In clinical testing and real-world emergency reports, the device has shown extremely high success rates on the first attempt. If the obstruction isn't fully cleared on the first pull, simply repeat the process: push down, pull up. Most obstructions are removed within 1-2 attempts.
Key factors for effectiveness:
- Ensure a tight seal with the mask over nose and mouth
- Use a swift, firm upward pull (not slow or gentle)
- Make sure you're using the correct mask size (adult vs. paediatric)
- If the person is unconscious, position them on their back on a firm surface
The device's one-way valve means it will never push the obstruction deeper — if it doesn't come out on the first pull, it stays in place and you can try again immediately. Traditional choking methods don't offer this safety feature or reliability.
